Mississippi Home Corporation Opens Public Comment Period for Grant Programs

Mississippi Home Corporation has opened a public comment period for grant programs. This period will allow the public and potential applicants to voice their opinions regarding the application scoring criteria. Comments will be considered and may be incorporated in the application materials prior to the opening of the 2020 Federal Program Application cycle. Comments will be accepted for the following programs:

  • Emergency Solution Grants (ESG)- program that provides outreach, shelter, rapid re-housing, homelessness prevention, and related services to persons experiencing homelessness or are in danger of becoming homeless throughout the state.
  • Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)- funds that may be used for a wide range of hosing, social services, program planning and development costs for those with aids.
  • Housing Trust Fund (HTF)- Addresses the affordable rental housing needs for extremely low and very low-income households, while giving priority to projects that address critical housing needs with an emphasis on the prevention, reduction, and expansion of permanent housing opportunities for persons experiencing homelessness and with serious mental illness.
  • HOME Rental Program- program which benefits low and very low-income households by funding construction or rehabilitation of affordable rental housing.
  • Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs)- This funding provides eligible non-profit organizations that act in the capacity of Owner and/or Developer to undertake HOME activities in the development of low-income housing or substantial rehabilitation of multi-family rental units.
  • Homeowner Rehabilitation- is designed to preserve owner-occupied units when feasible by securing structural integrity and correcting deficiencies in major systems.

The Mississippi Home Corporation was created by the State in 1989 to serve as the State’s Housing Finance Agency.  In that capacity, MHC administers the Mortgage Revenue Bond program and the Housing Tax Credit program, among numerous other programs.  MHC’s mission is to enhance Mississippi’s long-term economic viability by financing safe, decent, affordable housing and helping working families build wealth.
